Different kind of project Blog Post
My wife and I recently finished a different kind of project. Together we added built-in cabinets and shelves to our piano room.
We built most of it on weekends during our daughter’s naps.. which meant our project had random hard stops. 😅
A few takeaways I’m carrying back into work (and into our next home project):
* Time Management: one nap = one goal (install a cabinet, cut wood, caulk, paint). Then one person cleans while the other tends to our daughter.
* Communication > mind-reading: quick check-ins beat silent assumptions.
* Expect the unexpected: miscuts, missing hardware and the classic late-night Home Depot run.
* Define what done means: we aimed for sturdy, clean and finished without letting perfection steal all our family time.
We’re proud of how it turned out. Next up: decorating the room (including hardware for cabinets) and finally putting the shelves to work.
